so yahoo! horoscopes are tryin' tell me...
"The tide is starting to turn in your life, and things are definitely changing for the better. But are you ready to take advantage of the new opportunities coming your way? You are if you have a path to follow and a plan to guide you. This is the right time to build that plan -- and it's the right time to ask around for advice from friends who have been down this way before. They know what you need to know and can tell it to you in a way that you'll understand."
i guess? anyway... the countdown is ON.
vacation with my girls in 2 days!
Vegas, ya'll ain't ready for thissssss.

mad procrastinator
technically it should be summer for me. USF finished their semester last Thursday and all the homies graduated on Friday and Saturday. but i've got this lingering paper i gotta turn in tomorrow that i just started on, thanks to an extended muhfuggin deadline.
festivities have been keepin' me busy f'sho. i attended all 4 of USF's graduations and then 1 SFSU one all in 2 days. and in the past 2 days i've been to 7 grad parties. so really, when the fuck was i free to write this paper? (friends first! remember? haha) yeah, okay no excuse. but i'm writing it now so no big fkn deal.
this shouldn't be THAT bad though since i'm writing 10 pages on one of my daily reads: Okayplayer.com.
my objective: to school my 60-year old Journalism teacher on Hip-Hop artists Okayplayer chooses to cover. since this is an Arts Reporting and Reviewing class i'm trying to show him that folks at Okayplayer can post better reviews about Hip-Hop then mainstream publications such as Rolling stone can. Basically. i mean c'mon, you got Questlove all over it, why wouldn't he like it? i'll probably link him to Questlove's twitter while i'm at it.
2 page down folks, 8 more to go! then i'm kinda free. then soon after i'll post the grad pictures + pieces! so stay tuned.
happy almost summer ya'll. breathe in that fresh air.

NOT studying
wtf, holmes.
i have been trying to write this same muthafuggin' paper for DAYS. i'm being f'real, it's taking me literally at least 4 days to write this bad boy. a final paper has never taken me this long tobullshit write. i wanna be fuckin' free already. liberated and shit.
summer feels so damn close.
but too bad it's not THAT close. i'm def making summer seem farther away for me. because after i finish this Honors paper of mine, i got a huge Arts Review paper to tackle. it's really not cool, dude. i'm strugglin'. i feel like someone's gotta drag me to the finish line. not fucking cool. ughhhhh. and it doesn't help that when i start writing my paper all i can think about are cupcakes and ice cream cones. glorious shit like that.
a little inspiration, ya'll? some motivation? homegirl here is in dire need of some J-U-I-C-E.

goodbye newspapers?
original draft posted on: 2/25/09 @ 1:37am
this evening KTVU's top story on the 10 o'clock news was about the possible shutdown of the San Francisco Chronicle. sadly enough, like other newspapers in the country, the Chronicle is "on brink of sale or closure" due to the recession and specifically the $50 million they lost last year.
it's unfortunate to hear that because at one point in my college life, i've wanted to work at a newspaper and specifically at The Chronicle. and because of my journalism program, i've visited the office many times and have even met several writers from there. it's crazy to hear that this Bay Area daily may close down.
but honestly in my opinion... newspapers are NOT going to die. i've attended journalism conferences and i've been studying this in my honors Re-Making the News class and i truly do believe newspapers are just going to have to try to find a new model to live by in order to survive.
what's that new model though you ask? that's something they still have to try to find out. there's several different ways newspapers can respond and adjust, they're just going to have to figure specifically how they choose to adjust to new market models, UGC, and the utilization of the internet. alongside incorporating teh old paradigm of "old journalism" in with the new journalism values. if they find a combo that works, newspapers will get through this slump.
cause all bias aside, i am definitely a firm believer that newspapers will still be around... it isn't their time to die yet. not in my lifetime at least.

SFist.com writes a great article about the downfall of the Chronicle. read on.
